With its deep notes of teakwood and cedar, combined with leather, amber and dark musk, and seasoned with sandalwood and citrus, this candle is a winner. But what's up with that name? Let me tell you:
My friend and I kept discussing that it smelled like “a sexy man.” We played around with a dozen or so names, struggling to find something suitable for what clearly going to be a fan favorite. And then it hit me. What makes a man smell sexy? Technically it’s his body chemistry with whatever cologne/soap/etc he is wearing. So Cologne was a possible name. But also a crappy name. But… I remembered this story from my niece’s childhood.
When Sam was a kid, she spent a lot of summers on my parents’ farm. My dad would take her into town with him to run to the bank, pick up groceries, etc. And she loved going with him because 1. He was grandpa and 2. Two banks meant two lolipops and 3. The ladies who worked at the banks fawned over her and who doesn't like that as a child? My daddy always showered, put on his crispest button downs and dabbed a little cologne before they left. Cologne is water. And you put it on before going to the bank. So Sam called it "bank water" because she was a child and that was the logical name.
Hence, bankwater, a fabulously rich scent that I would be glad to wear as a cologne any day of the week, was born.
In 2021, I launched the RLC Candle Club, a monthly candle subscription service and it's been very successful. We only make a handful of candles every month.
The Legacy Collection is my revival of the RLC Candle Club's best-sellers (and fan favorites!). I have picked eight scents to start and we will see where that leads us.
Our candles are all hand-poured using vegan soy wax, with triple lead-free wicks, in a large beautiful matte black vessel. Labels are printed on Estate #9 wine labels. They look beautiful. The burn life is approximately 85-90 hours.
