I opened RLC on May 1, 2013. The following month, I attended my first Fancy Food Show as a buyer. I found several things I was really interested in buying, but two memories really stand out from the crowd.
 
I was put in a program called “Business Builders,” which helped small businesses find better inroads with suppliers (most of whom were also small, so it was a win for both of us). The format is similar to speed dating: I sat at the table and a dozen companies would come to me and pitch one-on-one for 10 minutes. It gave us both the opportunity to ask questions and learn about our respective companies. My last meeting of the day was The Gracious Gourmet's s Nancy Wekselbaum, a well-established businesswoman. She gave me the best advice while we sat there and was clear that I could make purchases on credit with her, which was putting a lot of faith in me. We talked well beyond our allotted time and eventually they had to tell us to leave. But, Nancy and I became friends that day and I have always carried - and always will carry - an assortment of her products.

If you love artichokes, you’ll be hard pressed to enjoy something better than our rich pairing of artichokes and their hearts, creamy parmesan cheese, and olive oil accented with onions, garlic, herbs and dots of roasted tomatoes. Serve on bruschetta rounds. Stir into a safron risotto. Toss with pasta. Spread on a shellfsh or chicken sandwich. Fold into a cheese omelet. Eat straight out of the jar!

The concept of The Gracious Gourmet is that if you have your pantry stocked properly, you can whip up a delicious meal with ease when you have last-minute guests over, it's a snow day or you just don't feel like leaving home, but want something good. These tapenades, spreads and pestos will do exactly that. I met Nancy Wekselbaum, owner of TGG, at the Summer Fancy Food Show in 2013. I had just opened the business and was on the hunt for some amazing products. They had the equivalent of a speed dating session, where makers pitched their products. Nancy was the last one of the day for me and we chatted long past the end of the event. She has played a key role in helping me pave my path for this business and her products have been instrumental to the early success of Riley/Land.
