Baby, Taste This Spoon - Large
Baby, Taste This Spoon - Large
Picture it: Wherever you were. Sometime in the past. Your grandma is stirring a big pot of whatever amazing dish your family loves, then turns to you and says, "baby, taste this." You do and the heavens open up and all is right in the world. Because Grandma made it.
That is the story I told someone while selling these on the corner of 117th and 7th Ave. in Harlem. She laughed and bought it. Without realizing, that become the name of the spoon. I still to this day tell that same story when showing it to someone in person. And they immediately recognize what I am saying, whether that big pot is gumbo or frijoles or goulash or chicken soup: because food is universal.
These handmade wooden spoons are created out of bonded Black Walnut, Cherry and Maple. They're designed to bring back memories of home, with a certain rustic flair that feels comfortable. Chuck Williams once said that wooden spoons are some of the most important tools in a home chef's kitchen. He was right. Here they are.
The Riley/Land Collection is known for our wooden kitchenware. From our award-winning biscuit cutters to our extensive line of rolling pins to our extremely popular bowl line, people know that our products are exquisitely crafted, made with care, and will last a lifetime. The roots of these pieces share history with the roots of my family - on our farm in rural Tennessee. The vast majority of the wood comes from one of our parcels of land. We believe in being as zero waste as possible, so we have developed ways to utilize nearly every cut of wood, even down to ensuring that the shavings find a new home in Raku firing or gardening mulch/compost.
The pieces we craft are made to last a lifetime, durable enough to use rather than to just sit on a shelf looking pretty. The grain, tone, and character of the wood are part of the design. Each piece is - quite naturally - one-of-a-kind.
