Based on the success of the OAK Nashville candles I added to the Collection last year - and a suggestion from the Director of Alumni Relations at my alma mater - I have partnered with OAK to create a new scent, exclusive to The Riley/Land Collection: Sewanee Fog. The candle, which is hand-poured in Nashville by a lady named Ray, is a nicely-balanced mixture of both masculine and feminine energy, while evoking the smell of damp mountain air. We took amber and oak moss and added a lilt of pine and rounded it out with an orange and sage mix that provides a rich, woody base but also notes of musk and citrus.
If you're a Sewanee grad, the Sewanee Fog candle will remind you of the smell that hangs in the air after the rain. It will bring back memories of afternoon concerts at Lake Cheston and frisbee golf in Manigault Park and Dr. Smith's class in the Quad.
If you have never heard of Sewanee, it will remind you of something - or maybe not a damn thing - but, it will smell good and make you happy.
If you haven't purchased candles from RLC before, here's what you get: a hand-poured soy wax candle with a lead-free wick that has an 85+ hour burn life. Taking a detour from OAK's burlap bags, I have partnered with a lovely lady named Ella who has created a drawstring canvas bag - in Sewanee Purple, no less - to house the candles, making them ideal for gift-giving. Oh, and a portion of the proceeds for every candle sold will be donated to the Sewanee Fund. So, whether you're an alum or never even heard of Sewanee, whether you're a woman or a man, whether you like candles or just like to give your friends (or clients) gifts, the Sewanee Fog candle is smart purchase.

Sewanee Fog Candle
I loved the way Joseph created this candle from scratch, and the collaboration involved to bring it to fruition. I have no connection with Sewanee, but I HAD TO HAVE IT based on the story behind it. Joseph took me there in my mind, and it was wonderful. I LOVE the scent, and I also love that it is not an in-your-face loud scent. Joseph truly gets the concept that sometimes less is more.
These candles smell heavenly!!! And I know that we'll reuse the bag to keep our phone & computer cords in a safe place when traveling.
